Szentendre

More souvenir ideas from Szentendre. The top picture is of knives this guy's family has been making for 6 generations. He had alot of very cool knives in his shop. None of them are very cheap as you can imagine. The picture doesn't really do them justice. But since there are a couple knife collectors in the family, I thought you might like to see them.

The next picture - this guy makes these boxes with all sorts of shapes and designs. He will also carve your name on any box you choose. I definitely want to get one of these to take home.

Szentendre

They make these hand-embroidered napkins into bread baskets. You set them on the table and put rolls or different kinds of bread in each compartment. I don't know for sure if they are truly Hungarian. I feel like I've seen them in other countries. But I thought they were pretty cool. I'm probably going to buy one before I come home.

Szentendre

On Saturday we had a real P-day. We went to this little tourist town about 1/2 hour away from Buda. It was so much fun to have the day off. We went in the shops and just looked around. All the streets are cobble stone and many of the buildings and churches look several hundred years old. The pink and white building above is one of the churches we saw when we were there. It's right on the Danube river.

Our Missionary District

This is our District.- plus the AP's. We invited them all over for dinner last Sunday because we wanted to talk to them about ideas for the Center. We love them. They are all hard workers and alot of fun. The guy in the back with the pink tie is from Holland. He doesn't speak German, but he understands it. Since he understands German, he thinks I should understand Dutch - so he tries speaking to me in Dutch. ( but I only understand a few words) We fixed so much food. We thought for sure we would have leftovers- but we didn't have one thing left. It's amazing how much they can eat. We are having such a good time with them. The blonde sister missionary in the front is a concert pianist. There are alot of missionaries in our area who have really great voices so at the end of the month they are having a Concert. We are hoping alot of non members will come. They say it's been a really great missionary tool for them.

Fruit Market

This is the fruit market. We go there almost every week. The fruit is delicious. We are trying to learn the names of different kinds of fruit, but mostly we just point. Once in a while we get lucky and one of the vendors speaks German. So I guess we should to them most of the time. The only problem is that you have to carry home whatever you buy. Sometimes we regret buying more than we want to carry.

Buda Ward Party

This is one of the dances they did at the party. It's like the bunny hop. They all get in a big long line and follow each other around the room. They also did the limbo and then a line dance to Cotton Eyed Joe. They really have a good time. Everyone in the room gets up and participates. It was really fun.

After the Baptism they had a big Ward party. This is a sample of the food they served. They go to alot of work making sandwiches. They are all pretty time consuming. They put meat, then a slice of egg, tomato, sprig of something that looks like parsley and then a dab of something like cream cheese. But all the platters look very nice. I tried one of the sandwiches and it was very tasty. I left the ones that looked like liver for someone else to try. :)
